Alianza Nacional de Campesinas (Alianza), Migrant Clinicians Network (MCN), Rural Coalition (RC) and 20 organizational partners and members have mobilized 221 community health outreach workers across 20 states and Puerto Rico to encourage vaccination within Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) rural communities. Funded by an $8.1 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the effort aims to raise vaccination rates among immigrant and migrant farmworkers, and rural communities of color.
Each week MCN facilitates a Learning Collaborative with 52 representatives from these 20 organizations across the country. Each organization then shares the content with their frontline community health workers, who tirelessly promote COVID-19 vaccination in the counties, towns and neighborhoods where they live. MCN’s clinical staff provide evidence-based updates regarding COVID-19. The clinical staff includes two physicians, a family nurse practitioner and a psychologist. Staff with expertise in industrial hygiene, public health, health promotion and worker health and safety also contribute to the discussions. In addition, MCN offers an extensive library of COVID-19 resources in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole to reinforce COVID-19 information, address vaccine hesitancy and assist in countering misinformation and disinformation. MCN offers extensive communications and marketing technical assistance to support each organization in adapting these easy-to-use resources such as pamphlets, videos, comic books so that their logo or local images of community members and leaders can be incorporated with ease.
