Joshi Marth Covarrubias moved from Santa Rita in Jalisco, Mexico to Grand Rapids, Michigan, with his mother and younger sibling as a child. His experiences as a community advocate for the local Spanish-speaking community, including assistance in finding health services and gaining legal status, spurred his interest in working for MCN. He graduated from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. He is the first person in his family to attend and graduate from college. He is also an Army veteran. Covarrubias recently moved to Austin with a goal of attending graduate school at Texas State University. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer, boxing, and making art.
