Five on Friday: Human Rights Week

“Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services.” -- Article 25, UN Declaration of Human Rights

This week is Human Rights Week, which commemorates the UN Declaration of Human Rights, which turned 70 years old on Monday. Almost three quarters of a century after its signing, its words still ring as true and urgent as ever. MCN’s work seeks to actualize the Declaration of Human Rights for marginalized mobile populations today. Thank you for supporting health justice and our work! Here are our five recommended reads from MCN staff people this week: 

Amy, Director of Environmental and Occupational Health, shared “New tick species capable of transmitting deadly disease is spreading in the US.”

Del, Director of International Projects and Emerging Issues, shared an article, “How Equity-Oriented Health Care Affects Health: Key Mechanisms and Implications for Primary Health Care Practice and Policy.”

Claire, Writer and Editor, shared a New York Times article about the founder of Southwest Key, which runs many  of the detention facilities for migrant children: “He’s Built an Empire, With Detained Migrant Children as the Bricks.”

Theressa, Senior Program Manager and Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator, recommended reading the new Draft Guidance Document Related to the Revised Common Rule.
